Collider.com recently sat down with Producer Frank Marshall for a video interview. In the interview he briefly mentioned the status of M. Night Shyamalan’s live action version of The Last Airbender. He says they’ll start to shoot in March 2009 and the movie will be released in late 2010 or early 2011. They’ll be filming in Greenland, Philadelphia and they might film in the Far East.”

Emmy Rossum and Jamie Chung Interviews
December 9, 2008
By: Son Goshin
A duo of interviews have come from the two leading ladies of DragonBall in the past couple of days. One is from Emmy Rossum who plays Bulma, and the other is from Jamie Chung who plays Chi-Chi.
First, is an interview with Emmy Rossum from Oricon Style, with a translation from DBtheMovie:
Have you seen the movie?
No, but I saw rushes (film with VFX and sound effects unfinished).
What scene were you impressed with?
Kamehameha! I’m sure you can enjoy various action scenes like Goku vs. Piccolo.
Is it an action movie?
It is an action adventure movie and there is a little comedy element, as with the original “Dragonball.” Although it has intense action, it is a movie everyone can enjoy.
How do you interpret the character of Bulma?
For me, Bulma is a intellectual scientist and a strong women. I knew Dragonball a little because the animation aired in the mornings on the weekend in the U.S. However, when I got this role, I wanted to know her more so I studied by seeing the anime again and reading the comic.
Did you know the popularity (of Dragonball)?
It may not be as popular as it is in Japan, but it’s popular in the U.S. too. I feel the responsibility to fans both in Japan and the U.S.
Did you enjoy action scenes?
Of course. About 90% I performed for myself without a stunt double. I learned martial arts and I rode a motor bike, although I had never ridden one before, so I had to train hard for this role.
Weren’t you injured?
I’m not injured but I made a lot of bruises. The hairstyle of Bulma is the ponytail at a high position so it became a very good cushion when I turned over or fell down (laugh).
The second interview with Jamie Chung comes from MTV, where she elaborates on the reshoots that recently took place:
“Dragonball” actress Jamie Chung told MTV News. They are only re-shooting ONE scene. One very big, very important scene.
“I think it’s just one scene that they’re gonna have to reshoot and it’s the end fight,” Chung said of what they were re-tooling. “I fortunately will not have to go back. I think it’s the big fight between Justin Chatwin and James Marsters.”
That would be between hero Goko and villain Lord Piccolo, names that sound vaguely dirty but apparently aren’t. Chung, on the other hand, plays Chi Chi, which doesn’t sound dirty but is. Got all that? Good, me neither.
“Like, ok, Chi Chi. I heard rumors [that] each character is named based off a fruit. So I was being interviewed by this guy from Japan, and I was like, ‘Is it true? Is Chi Chi a name for a Japanese fruit?’ He was like, ‘No…it’s kinda like an international saying for…’ ‘Oh right, boobs!’” Chung laughed of the unintentional comedy of her character’s name. “There’s no way around it! We shot it in Mexico so my trailer said Chi Chi. It’s a name I can’t seem to shake.”
She’s going to have to get used to it. According to Chung, sequels are already planned for the anime adaptation, with all the main actors signed on for multiple projects.
“We’re signed on for two more,” she said. “Hopefully, I hope the movie does well. There’s lots of places that Fox wants to go with this.”
Makes one wonder what was wrong with the final fight scene the first time. Have an opinion on it? Well go on over to our forums and let your voice be heard.

DragonBall Movie to Get New Title?
December 4, 2008
By: Son Goshin
It looks like the title for the upcoming DragonBall movie is evloving, literally. According to a report on Superhero Hype, the title to the movie has been extended to “DragonBall Evolution”. Why the sudden change of the movie’s name is unknown, but hopefully we’ll get some clarification on this directly from Fox soon. To discuss this, head on over to the Forums.
LAA Webcast Episode 2
December 4, 2008
By: Son Goshin
The second episode of the LAA webcast is now up for your viewing pleasure. Well, at least part of it. It’s kind of hard to explain, I’ll let Oak have that honor of doing so:
“OK, here’s the deal: We’ve got 3, maybe 4 videos to upload for the second webcast. The first video will be uploaded today, Wednesday, December 3rd — in fact, I’m currently waiting for Youtube to finish slurping up the 273MB file (I’ve been loading since the end of Tuesday). Video two should be posted December 4th. Video three should be posted December 5th. And video four, if there is one, should be posted December 6th.
This webcast features a departure from the previous style found in Webcast One and Public Service Announcement One, both on the account of multiple uploads, and on the account that what we did was rather experimental (and low-budget in its experimental nature). We tried. If we succeeded in any degree, then huzzah! … and if we failed at many, er, any, places, well… constructive criticism is lovely.”
So there you have it. Click on the image above to see Volchok and Oak embroiled in a show down for the ages! And as mentioned, please leave all comments and such over on the Forums.

DragonBall Teaser Trailer Pushed Back Again
December 3, 2008
By: Son Goshin
First we thought we’d see a teaser for the DragonBall movie attached to Max Payne. When that didn’t work out, we were looking forward to the release of The Day the Earth Stood Still this month. Well, it seems our hopes have been dashed again according to a couple sources. DBMB received word that there will be no DragonBall trailer this month:
” We had hoped to finish it in time for that delivery but it looks like it may be debuting later now. Still waiting to hear for sure.”
This was later confirmed by Fox saying that the new target release date for a teaser will be January 2009. Kind of strange since the only movie listed for 20th Century Fox in January is Bride Wars. Well, we’ve waited 5 years, what’s another month, right? To discuss, vent, or what have you, head on over to our Forums.

Voltron on Hold?
November 20, 2008
By: Son Goshin
ANN reports that on Monday, World Events Producetions (WEP) served a legal summons against Toei Animation stemming from a lawsuit against the proposed Live Action Voltron movie. WEP and Koplar Entertainment licensed the rights to one of the anime used to dub Voltron, entitled Golion . WEP had this to say:
“New Regency investigated the existence of possible third-party claims in and to the Golion and/or Voltron properties.” WEP continues, “Through that investigation, New Regency identified an artist or author Kazuo Nakamura, who may possess rights that encumber the Golion and/or Voltron properties and that interfere with World Events’ full and lawful enjoyment of the Golion and Voltron properties.”
Basically, WEP is worried about how the rights will be spelled out and who would get the money when and if the film gets done. If you remember, back in August, New Regency decided to not produce the movie. With this latest setback, things aren’t looking too good for the giant robot and his friends.

Brand Spankin New DragonBall Pics
November 11, 2008
By: Son Goshin
In the past couple of days some brand new pics from the DragonBall movie have leaked, with a few of them actually coming from a James Marsters fan site and DBtheMovie:
Looks like Goku is still keeping true to character with his ravenous appetite for turkey legs. Also, it’s being said that Piccolo will gradually change throughout the movie, into a more greenish color. How green or how much he will actually change is unknown. You can let the speculation begin over on our Forums
Want to see an American Remake of Oldboy?
November 8, 3008
By: The Live Action Vegeta
I sure don’t! However, Variety has reported that Steven Speilberg and Will Smith are in negotiations to do an American version of the Korean film from Chan Wook-Park.
The original film is based on the award winning manga from Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi. It’s about a man who was kidnapped and locked in a room for 15 years without explanation. Suddenly he’s released and meets up with a young woman whom he quickly falls for. When the young woman is kidnapped by his former captures they tell him he has five days to figure out why they locked him up or they will kill her.
The film will be distributed by Universal pictures.

Early look at AKIRA!!
November 7, 2008
By: The Live Action Vegeta
2009 is going to be a HUGE year for Live Action Anime films. We have Street Fighter, Blood, Dragonball, Transformers 2, Astroboy, Gatchaman, and now it’s reported that the new live Action Akira has been put on the fast track, by WB, for summer 2009.
LatinoReview has an excluse look at the screenplay for the upcoming Live Action Akira. Which is set to be two live action movies, each based on three of the books in Otomo’s series. A fellow by the name of Dr. Strangefist reviews the screenplay. Here’s a snippet.
The story takes place in a burgeoning new metropolis of the future, several years after a cataclysmic event destroyed the old city that once stood in its place. Unbeknownst to most of the populace, the real cause of the event was a small boy with incredible psychic powers, part of a top secret goverment program attempting to harness such so called “Espers” as weapons. The project is deemed too dangerous, and the young boy – AKIRA – is put in cryogenic stasis in a secret underground facility to prevent such a disaster from ever occurring again. In probably the most significant change and the only one that really bugged me the events of this version are shifted from Tokyo to New York – but after the city is destroyed and the United States’ economy collapses, burgeoning superpower Japan buys the devastated island to construct a new city to house their ever expanding population. So the firlm will technically be set in New Tokyo, but on the island of Manhattan, and with about half the character being American and the rest remaining Japanese. It’s a somewhat odd way of appealing to American audiences and fans alike, and feels somewhat awkward, but does allow for some up to date politicial commentary.
To read the entire script review click here. It’s definitely worth it! The overall grade that was given for the script was a B!!

Goku as an Oozaru?
November 6, 2008
By: Son Goshin
According to an anonymous source, DBtheMovie recieved a photo of what is supposed to be called a “monster form of Goku”:
PICTURE REMOVED
Could this be Fox’s version of the Oozaru? It doesn’t really look like a monkey. Not much more is known about it, and it might not even be the finished product. Whatever it may be, you can discuss it over on our Forums.
Interview With Joon Park
November 6, 2008
By: Son Goshin
Joon Park, who will be playing the part of Yamcha in the upcoming DragonBall live action movie, recently gave an interview to Korean news site Star News. A translation was made available by DBtheMovie:
“I always wanted to be a Hollywood actor, because I’m not good at the Korean language for acting in a Korean movie DragonBall was my third audition in Hollywood, I went to the audition, and I was called up from the director to come audition again. When I went to audition again, there were actors who were well known in the U.S., so I had to fight them. I thought “Not a chance,” because I’m “God” in Korea, but a “shit” in the U.S. (laugh)
“I entered the audition wearing a hat and shorts, and as soon as the director looked at me, he said “You are Yamcha.” I still can’t believe it. I won’t appear the first 25% of the movie, but I will later on.
I met Chow Yun-Fat for the first time when we traveled by helicopter. He was indeed a kind person. He was very friendly.
“It isn’t easy to make a comic into a movie. It could have became too childish. So we were trying to maintain a middle ground. There will be a lot of CG in the movie. This is a family movie, so the shooting set was a very family-like atmosphere. “Speed Racer” was a very technical set, “Dragonball” set’s atmosphere was kind of like inviting staff to your home and having a barbecue.
“Details of the movie are still a secret. It will be released on March 14th next year in South Korea and Japan for the first time in the world. Toys and video games will be released in the near future. My toys too. (laugh)”

Transformers 2 Pretends
November 4th, 2008
By: Live Action Vegeta
An insider from TFW2005 is reporting that the character Alice, in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is actually a Transformer known as a Pretender.
Pretenders are Transformers hidden inside a shell, that acts as their disguise. Alice is said to be a shell of an attractive human woman with a hybrid of a Frenzy type robot inside. The transformer will have an arm that transforms into an energy weapon, a long tongue, and a scanning tenticle.
Sounds like my kind of date! Although it also sounds a lot like the T-X from Terminator 3. So we’ll see how it pans out.
What are your thoughts? Discuss them on our Forums.
Barack Obama is President Elect of the United States
November 4th, 2008
By: Live Action Vegeta
This doesn’t have anything to do with anime movies but I thought it was worth a mention as it marks a historic moment in United States history. Barack has recieved the 270 electoral votes required to become President of the United States.
He will be the 44th President, and the FIRST African-American president in the history of the United States of America.

Miscellaneous News: DragonBall, Astro Boy, and More
November 1, 2008
By: Son Goshin
So it’s the first day of November and we got a couple of random things to cover. Rather than making a bunch of seperate entries, I’ll just sum up a few of the things that have happened in the past couple of days.
First off, Jumpland has announced that it will be streaming the new DragonBall OVA from the Jump Tour (along with One Piece’s Romance Dawn and Tegami Bachi) for free on November 24th! The video will be streamed on their website, however it’s possible IP addresses outside of Japan could be barred from this viewing. Can’t hurt to check though
As far as movie news goes for DragonBall, Dragonballfim.es reports from the XIV Manga Barcelona that a promotion will be taking place at the convention this weekend where the winner will receive a pre-screening of the movie.
IMAGI Studios, responsible for the adaptation of the upcoming Astro Boy CGI film, put up an interview with David Bowers on their website. Click on “What’s New” and the interview will be there. Here’s a short snippet:
“I want Astro Boy to to be a really special movie, a mix of action-adventure with lots of comedy and a really emotional story at its core. It’s an iconic property and deserves respect, so I don’t want to give it the glib, pop-referential treatment that so many animated movies have today. Instead I want it to stand as a classic superhero origin story, something befitting the icon of Astro Boy, kind of along the lines of Richard Donner’s Superman. I want it to serve as an introduction to Astro Boy for western audiences whilst remaining faithful to the lore for Asian audiences. Astro Boy is a treasured icon in Japan and so I’m working closely with the Tezuka estate to ensure I get everything right.”
To discuss this, head on over to our Forums.
In Transformers news, Michael Bay’s official website has posted that prinicpal shooting for Transformers: Rvenge of the Fallen is complete. The movie will be set to premiere on June 26.
And finally, ANN reports that Kenji Sonishi’s series Neko Rahmen, the story of a cat that owns a ramen shop, will be made into a live action movie and the official website has begun streaming a Trailer.
To view the trailer, select the white text at the left side in the top menu. The movie is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on November 29. You can discuss this over on our Forum.
New Dragonball Clip
October 29, 2008
By: Vegeta
A new clip has surfaced from the upcoming Live Action Dragonball movie. Originally aired on the Japanese television show NHK, the clip is now viewable online and is posted on this one small little website called youtube.com.
The clip doesn’t show much, but it does give us a very good look at one of the Dragonballs, and an extended look at Goku lifting the orange gi out of it’s box. I wonder if it was a Christmas present from Master Roshi?
Discuss on our Forums.
First Possible Review of DragonBall
October 26, 2008
By: Son Goshin
Well this is definitely quite surprising. Over on AICN someone has said they’ve seen the DragonBall movie already and have a report with a few spoilers inside. Take a look for yourself:
“Well after watching the 95-100 minutes (excluding credits) of the movie i say this movie was solid. Ya you heard that right. I simply love the anime but I was very very nervous about it being made by fox. After all the studio has been making nothing but shit lately. Another reason why I was worried about this movie is that the director is James Wong who made final destination 1 & 3 and The one starring Jet Li. What I watched had unfinished sfx and with no scoring done yet. Also… they will be adding one or two scenes which will be shot sometime end of october.
Now let me list the positives of this movie
1) Action – I wasn’t expecting the action scenes to be as awesome as they were. Simply put the best thing about this movie. The last action scene of Goku vs. Picollo are simply amazing and when picollo takes out his huge fucking ass sword with weird rectangle shape tablet attached it at the tip of sword and slamming it on goku was fucking awesome. Lot of blowing shit up, super cool flying scenes, awesome ki blasts. This fight scene was around 13-15 minutes long. There are other small action scenes that are fun and entertaining with slo mo but nowhere as good as the picollo vs. goku scene.
2) James Marsters as Picollo was awesome. He was perfect as picollo. Very mean and a villain that makes you say fuck ya kick all their asses. Oh and Picollo transforms into a light greenish color picollo towards the end of the movie.
3) Justin Chatwin as Goku. This guy surprised me a lot. I really didn’t like him when they casted him as goku but he did a damn good job in the acting department and he nailed the KAMEHAMEHA line.
4) Oozaru – the giant monkey is in the movie. Goku turns into a 8-9 feet tall giant baboon when he looks at the moon. It was awesome looking though a bit CGI. Maybe they will fix it later.
5) Emmy Rossum as Bulma- She was really really good in this role. I liked how she never acted like a wimpy girl and eventhough she knows she can’t win against the evil forces yet she kicks ass. A strong female role I will say.
6) Fullum Assasins – I thought adding these monsters were bad idea but they were pretty damn cool and there was an enitre scene where Goku and his friends fight these monsters and that fight scene was pretty damn good.
7) Joon Park as Yamcha was pretty cool. His acting was spot on like the character and they showed some cool fighting techniques of his. The fight scene between him and goku was good.
Negatives
1) Story – Dragonball fans will be dissapointed with some of the changes they have made with stories and characters etc. Krillin isn’t in the movie, Tien isn’t in the movie too. High school setting for the first 22-23 minutes was so not needed but ah well typical hollywood garbage of adding bullshit like that.
2) Jamie Chung as Chi Chi – Ya this was another casting i didn’t like and my worst fears came true. Her acting is as bad as Jessica Alba’s in F4 movies but thankfully her screentime isn’t that big. I really wished they could have tried harded to find someone else. I hope for sequel she can improve if there is one of course.
3) Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi – I was dissapointed with this. I wanted the fucking perverted roshi who fucking grabs breasts and asses like in the anime but alas all of that is fucking gone. Also he acted like Mr. Kesuke Miyagi. You know what I mean. The lines he spoke were fine but I felt he was uncomfortable in the movie. Very dissapointed.”

Masiela Lusha Talks Blood: The Last Vampire
October 22, 2008
By: Son Goshin
Masiela Lusha, famous for playing the role of Carmen on The George Lopez Show will be playing the role of Sharon in the upcoming Blood: The Last Vampire adaptaion due in theaters March 2009. On her website, Lusha has a lenghty report on how shooting the film was. Click the picture to check it out:
Now let me say that this news is actually pretty old, probably from sometime in March 2008. It’s at least before this past August’s announcement on the release date as the report still lists the former October 2008 target release date. The reason I’m posting it now after all this time is becuase I missed this back when this report first hit, and becuase I cannot recall seeing this anywhere else last Spring. With the lack of Blood news lately, this should give you all something to hold you over. Anyways, here’s a snippet of her report:
“Sharon was such a colorful little villain in disguise that I just couldn’t get enough of her! She was living in my thoughts. On the surface she appears to be a harmless high school girl, but within minutes, her facade transforms into a dark and overpowering threat. I just loved flexing my evil muscles, but perhaps I was too immersed in my character since Suzanne (our make-up artist) thought I really was that “intense”! But it didn’t take long for her to realize that my personality was far from the Queen Bee Demon Child. In fact, when I’m not prepared to perform on camera, I tend to be quite shy.
“Still, it was fun being Sharon – actually it was fantastic! She was unlike any other character I’ve portrayed before. She’s ruthless, vicious, invulnerable, and a great fighter. Don’t let the innocent high school girl act fool ya!”

Dragonball Movie Returns to Production?
October 19, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
It appears that the live action Dragonball movie will be going back into production on October 30th, but don’t worry they’re not re-shooting the whole movie. Even though I’m sure there are those that would like them too.
It would appear to be something new. We can’t be sure at this time, and it could also be reshoots, but ActorsAccess has posted this casting notice. The simple fact that there is a casting notice should tell us that it’s something that wasn’t previously shot.
Also note that their looking for males fluent in Nepalese or Tibetan. Could this possibly mean they’re going back to add Krillin? One can hope.

DragonBall Trailer in December?
October 15, 2008
By: Son Goshin
The DragonBall live action movie trailer was a no show for Max Payne, but could we see it this holiday season? According to DB Legends, they were informed by Fox that the trailer is supposed to see a 12/12/08 release with The Day the Earth Stood Still. It would make sense to start marketing the DragonBall movie around the holiday season, but there’s no reason to think it can’t be pushed back again. You can discuss for yourself over on our Forums.

Tatsuya Fujiwara, who played the role of Light Yagami in the Death Note movie is starring in another manga adaptation to the big screen. This time, it’s Noboyuki Fukumoto’s gambling action manga, Kaiji.
ANN reports that that the film will be directed by Toya Sato (who also directed the live action adaptation of Gokusen) and has a target release date of summer 2009. The movie hasn’t been officially announced yet, as a casting call was quickly pulled from a film site. We’ll keep you updated as more news comes our way. DragonBall Trailer Will Not Premiere With Max Payne
October 6, 2008
By: Son Goshin
It looks like the DragonBall trailer will not be premiering on October 17th with Max Payne. Actually, the leaked trailer probably won’t be seen in theaters period. Dragonball Legends received and e-mail from Fox saying that the leak was not meant to be seen by anyone except those at the expo, and have requested it being taken down, which we have also done. Here’s a look at exactly what was said:
“First off, we love your enthusiasm for the film. We are so sorry to ask that you remove the content. It is not meant to irritate or discourage you and your readers from following this film campaign. It’s just that the pieces of content that are being leaked were not created to be used this way.
They were only meant to be shown to potential Licensing & Merchandising partners who need to make partnering decisions far in advance of release date, and the content has not been approved for online use. Elements like music clearances and even talent approvals have not been pursued because we had no intention of having this go online. Alot goes into a trailer or video being authorized for online use….
We had hoped to have a really kick-ass trailer done by MAX PAYNE’s in-theater date, but because alot of effects shots are still being worked on – we’ve decided to wait until there is more material to work with, so we can really “wow” you and the fans. This is not uncommon for a film that still has 6 months until it goes in theaters. It looks like the real trailer will be released a little later in the year.
Again, thanks for all your interest. I am happy to update you when we get new artwork and approved video to distribute. We appreciate you removing the content, and don’t mean to cause you any headaches with your readers .”
It’s unfortuante that the world will ahve to wait a little bit longer, but hopefully we’ll be seeing a better product come November or December. You can discuss this over on our Forums.

Recent Dragonball Movie News
September 23, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
A few updates coming your way on the live action Dragonball movie. First up the French magazine Cine Live was able to speak with Director James Wong and Executive Producer Tim Van Rellim. Regarding the perversion of the Master Roshi character and if it was translated over to the film, here is what James Wong had to say (note: the following is roughly translated from French):
“Yes somewhat,” says James Wong, “We kept his main features like his mocking humor, but we eliminated anything dealing with his [particular] taste for women. In the manga Roshi is a true sexual pervert, and that would not work in a family film.”
James Wong also went on to say, ” I discoverd that Dragonball is a universe that is so rich it would take several films to tell the full story. My goal with Dragonball is not to convince fans that Dragonball is great, they already know that. But present it to a new audience, that’s more adult, as the neophyte that I was myself before discovering the manga.”
So there you have it, Roshi is not a pervert. As for Producer Tim Van Rellim, he spoke with the magazine while inside and old jeans factory which they turned into a studio,
“Here we can build large sets, including the volcano where the hero must take one of the seven [dragonballs]… By day the volcano doesn’t do anything. But by night the lighting of the scene give is a whole other dimension.”
In other news, dbthemovie has a scan from SFX magazine. If you remember SFX was taking questions from the fans to ask James Marsters about the movie. So the questions have been asked and the questions have been answered.
In the article Marsters has a long response to questions, “How true to the anime will the Dragonball film be?” He also answer the question of, “Is there flying in the movie.” which he answere, “Oh my god. Yeah. Lots of flying.”

MTV interviews Emmy Rossum
September 20, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
Recently MTV sat down with Emmy Rossum and spoke with her about her role in Dragonball. Here’s what she had to say.
“With shooting completed for the live-action adaptation of popular anime/manga series “Dragonball,” actress Emmy Rossum told MTV News that she’s finally washed the blue coloring out of her hair and returned to a life sans catsuit and cartoon weaponry — but with a few new skills in her repertoire.
“In it, [I'm] riding a motorcyle in a leather catsuit, so that’s always fun — and I have five guns that spin all around,” said Rossum of her role as Bulma, the sometimes-partner to the film’s hero, Goku (played by Justin Chatwin). “I had never ridden a motorcycle before. I think I was more concerned about the safety of the people in the crew because sometimes I would lose control and veer randomly off into people.”
As for her character’s fondness for gunplay, Rossum said she’d never fired — or even held — a gun before “Dragonball,” but feels more than confident about pulling off her character’s trigger-happy habits thanks to some training with local Marines.
That calm-under-fire training will probably come in handy for the “Phantom of the Opera” actress, considering the level of scrutiny an adaptation of one of the anime and manga worlds’ most popular properties brings with it. According to Rossum, fans should be pleasantly surprised with the way the property has been translated to a live-action project.
“When I signed on to the project, I was a big fan of the anime and knew [Bulma] as the iconic blue, bobbed character and wanted to stay true to that — but we also wanted to make it realistic,” explained Rossum. “So in keeping with the director and what the studio really wanted, we adapted her look to be a little more realistic and human, and little bit more believable for contemporary day. She’s pretty bad-ass, but still quirky and fun, and kind of ridiculous in the way she is in the anime.”
That doesn’t mean the legions of “Dragonball” faithful aren’t far from her mind, though. Rossum said her first encounter with “Dragonball” was the Saturday morning cartoon, only to realize that “it’s really so much more than that — from the comic to [the cartoon] to the whole franchise and brand, so many people feel such a closeness to these characters.”
“So, it’s a little bit stressful to play a character that so many people hold close to their hearts,” she admitted, “but you just hope you do it justice and they like it.”
Rossum also hinted at a few aspects of the film that should have fans guessing, telling MTV News that she’s “seen some wax molds” for potential action figures, and cautiously acknowledged that a video game based on the film was “a possibility.”
Possibly the most interesting tease she offered up was her anticipation of not only seeing “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alum James Marsters appear on screen in his role as Lord Piccolo, but also “an incredible monster that I can’t talk about that is very, very tall.”
“It’s actually a very tall man — an 8-foot man,” she added. “It’s based on something else from the… You know, I can’t really say anything else.”
Motorcycle incidents and catsuits aside, Rossum said she’d be up for a return to the role in a “Dragonball” sequel, and vehemently denied rumors that the project was in danger of being cancelled or otherwise shut down.
“Oh, no. I really doubt that’s possible,” said Rossum. “That’s not going to happen.”
So what are your thoughts on the the movie?

Two New DragonBall Interviews
September 17, 2008
By: Son Goshin
Two new interviews have popped up in regards to the upcoming DragonBall movie. First up, our friends at DBtheMovie were able to get an interview with cast member Gabriela de la Garza, who several weeks ago revealed she had a bit part in the film. Here’s a snippet of the interview:

DBtheMovie: What is your characters role / purpose in the movie? How long were you on set?
Gabriela de la Garza: I am an Avatar, and I give information to other characters. I was only one day on set and one day for wardrobe and make-up design which is awesome.
DBtheMovie: Were you familiar with Dragonball before being cast?
A: I knew Dragon Ball Z from the Tv series and of course also knew the impact it has worldwide. Thats why despite of having a small role, I really was excited to do it. Is one of those experiences, full of fantasy, you dont have every day.
DBtheMovie: How was it like working with the director James Wong?
A: Working with James Wong was great. He is a very specific kind of person and he can really transmit the idea he has for every scene. He really cares about the details so I am sure the movie will be beyond extraordinary!
And the second interview was with the movie’s composer Brian Tyler on Film Muziek. Click the link to go straight to the audio interview. He talks briefly about his work on DragonBall, as well as his other projects, and notes it will be somewhat a combiantion of Transformers and Harry Potter. Transformers Movie Chronicles has posted up an 11 part youtube video from the Bethleham Steel Works set. You might remember the rumors of the Ice Cream truck as a new transformer from that call sheet and image (above) a long time ago. TMC now reports that:
” The scene breakdowns also reveal that the Icecream truck is a new robot – splitting in two (”twins”) around children whilst leaving them treats (comedy is back, excellent!). “

Devastator Confirmed for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen?
September 11, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
Seems that over at TFW2005 they have confirmation that Devastator will indeed be in the next Transformers film. Usually they’ve been pretty spot on about things and this is what they have to say that they know:
“The confirmation includes the following details:
- Seven construction vehicles merge to form Devastator
- Devastator has lots of upper body strength, like a gorilla
- Not just green, some of the vehicles are red and yellow
- The previously Long Haul concept art by Josh Nizzi is legit”
The concept art they are refering to is the image below:
All very exciting news for Transformers fans! It makes this movie even more interesting than it was before.

Interview with DragonBall’s Luis Arrieta
September 6, 2008
By: Son Goshin
Hoy Cinema recently had the opportunity to talk with Luis Arrieta who will be playing Weaver (not Teto, weaver) in the upcoming Dragonball live action movie. Thanks to forum member Fogdark for the heads up.

Apparently, Arrieta says that his role is not as importnat as people ahve speculated. Supposedly, Weaver was to be somewhat of a “replacement” for Krillin, or Goku’s best friend. According to Weaver, he only spent one day of shooting while in Durango, meaning his role is very limited. To see the entire interview translated (albeit, by Google) click HERE.

Two New Interviews with Dragonball’s Jamie Chung
September 5, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
IGN has put up an interview with Jamie Chung about Samurai Girl and Dragonball. Below is what she had to say about her experience with Dragonball.
IGN: Dragonball has such a huge following. Were you aware of it beforehand?
Chung: I’m so scared… I grew up watching Dragonball. Are you kidding me? I love it! So, to play Chi Chi, the girl that I admired, is kind of crazy. I kind of wanted to be Bulma, but Emmy Rossum is perfect for Bulma. She really fits the character essence and everything.
IGN: What was the shoot like?
Chung: It was awesome. A major motion picture and a TV schedule is so different and the budget’s are so different, and the magic that you can make happen is amazing.
IGN: Were you able to take any of the things you’d learned on Samurai Girl and use them in Dragonball?
Chung: Oh, yeah. And I learned even more on Dragonball and I brought it to Samurai Girl. It was great!
IGN: What was it like working with your costars in Dragonball?
Chung: They’re brilliant actors. Emmy, only being 21, is an absolute pro. She knows what she’s doing, she’s absolutely gorgeous – she’s stunning. And she’s dedicated. I was in awe of her beauty. James Marsters has a huge following, but he’s so down to Earth. He’s a method actor and he’s fantastic. He’s the perfect Piccolo. I know they won’t show it to you, but the makeup they did and the mask took three hours to do, and he looks insane. They were very picky and particular on how he was going to look. Justin Chatwin is a pro. Not only does he fit the character internally — he has Goku’s essence — but he looks like a cartoon character! With his big, blue eyes, he looks like Japanese anime!
IGN: What are your outfits like in Dragonball?
Chung: Lots of boobies. I mean, it fits my character name, you know?
IGN: [Laughs] What was your reaction seeing the costume?
Chung: I’m like, “You want me to look wholesome and you want me to wear pants and not show leg, and yet I have Chi Chis!”
To read the full interview click here
Also Variety Japan interviewed her on her role as well. The interview is in Japanese, but over at dbthemovie they have the full article translated. Head over there to check it out, but here’s a snippit.
Jamie Chung, she appeared at the interview room in very high tension. As soon as she found out I was Japanese, she asked me the question, “Is it true that all Dragonball characters names derive from the name of vegetables?” The name of the Saiyan is so, I explained, she said “Well, what does Chi-chi mean in Japanese? Shooting place in Mexico, the crew spoke Spanish, all of them laughed when they called my name Chi-chi, I asked why they were laughing, they said that Chi-chi means boobs in Spanish!” I was surprised, in fact almost the same meaning in Japanese, when I told her it, “No!” She was shocked and put her hands on her head, but she rebound quickly, and showed an impish smile.
She is 25-years-old, a Korean American who was born and raised in San Francisco. The family lived in the Japan Town, She grew up surrounded by Japanese culture. The city where anime events are often held is her playground, Jamie says “Dragon Ball” and “Hello Kitty” is her Idol.

Dragonball Trailer Screencaps + Piccolo!

Hey folks! Good day for news today. And right at the last few minutes before midnight comes some great new pics from the Dragonball movie! Some screencaps of the trailer and the first image of Piccolo. Photos originated over at nerdorama.cl:

Am I the only one that thinks Piccolo looks more like Jim Carrey as The Mask? Or what was the bad guy’s name, Dorian?
And anyone else notice the DragonBall style looks very similar to that OLD OLD poster from a while back. The “all they need is seven” poster. I think it was the one designed off the Tomb Raider globe thingy.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles… LIVE ACTION!
September 2, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
Now I know what you’re thinking. “Heeeeey, you’re Live Action Anime, what’s Ninja Turtles doing on here?” Well there’s some Japanese influence… yeah that’s it… And I’m sure there’s been a Ninja Turtles manga at some point and there’s ninjas, yeah yeah…. and there’s ninjas! Yeah that’s the ticket! There’s ninjas and …. look it’s news of a LIVE ACTION NINJA TURTLES MOVIE!!!!

IGN reported today that Warner Brothers and Imagi plan on moving forward with the TMNT franchise after the success of the animated film. Not with an animated sequel though, but a LIVE ACTION movie!.
Director of TMNT Kevin Eastman had this to say:
“Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better “re-invention” (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT’s, in a live action film–like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc…there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original “first” TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right–but no official word yet…will keep you posted. Best, Kevin”
So there you have it. The buzz on this says 2010 or 2011 release date. So there’s something to look forward too. Again I know this isn’t anime but I think enough can respect the sheer awesomeness of news of a new series of Live Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

LAA EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Dragonball’s Shavon Kirksey!
August 31, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
Recently I had the pleasure of speaking with Shavon Kirksey, whom you all may know is playing the character of Emi in the upcoming live action Dragonball movie. I asked her a few questions about her character and her experiences on the movie. Here’s a quick snippet:
LAA: How did you get involved with Dragonball? Was there an audition process or were you called in?
Shavon: Yes, I got a call from my agency telling me to check my email because I have an audition for the Dragonball live action movie. So first I read on tape with the casting director, John Papsidera, then went to callbacks. The very next day my agent and manager called me telling me I booked it and that I am leaving for Mexico soon! I was so excited!! This is my first role in a film and I got to film out of the country! How fun is that?
LAA: Sounds like a lot! In the movie you play a character named Emi. Fans have been curious about this character as she is new to the Dragonball universe. What can you tell us about her role in the film and about her character in general?
Shavon: Well, my character was made up for the film. Emi and Chi Chi are best friends in the movie. We are the “it” girls on our high school campus, and we only like to hang out with other popular kids and the football players, so we can maintain our popular image. Everyone wants to be in our circle but emi wont allow it unless she thinks your cool enough [laughs]. But emi is a cool down to earth girl and she’s very smart, but she just wants everyone to see her as the perfect popular girl.

And the director of Voltron is…
August 28, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
Max Makowski?
Apparently so. LatinoReview’s El Mayimbe broke the news:
“I’m told he’s on every studio’s hot list these days because of some Sundance movie he made a few years ago about warring assassins called ONE LAST DANCE. I was also told it’s like having Zach Snyder do 300. Max is supposed to have a great visual style that’s very specific and all his own.“
He’s also directing the remake of Kung Fu!

Check out the Live Action Kodomo no Kodomo trailer
August 28, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
Ran across this trailer today on cinemacafe.net. It’s the live action Kodomo no Kodomo (Child of a Child). Unfortunately the trailer is not subtitled and it’s in Japanese. So while some of us might not know what they’re saying, the cinematography is very nice to look at.
The film is adapted from the Japanese manga of the same name. It’s about an 11-year-old girl named Haruna who becomes unexpectedly pregnant. You might recognize the similarity in theme to the recent American film Juno. While Juno dealt with a 16 year old pregrency, the idea of an 11 year old girl being pregnant seems a little more… shocking. And probably isn’t a topic seen too often. Which might just make the film that much more interesting.
It release in Japanese theaters on September 27th. Hopefully we’ll get the dvd here in the states.

Bob Orci Answers Question on Transformers and Casting On AFB
August 25, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
Over at TFW2005, Bob Orci (screenwriter) has been answering lots of questions from fans regarding the upcoming movie. Here’s some of the questions.
Q. Will Optimus have a trailer in this film, and will it transform? Will we see Roller, and if so, is it apart of Prime like his profile states or a separate being? Will Roller have a robot form?
A. We’ve talked about the trailer many times. I can say nothing more than that.
Q. Will these alien robots, the evil ones in particular, get some color variation? All/mostly silver/grey made it difficult to tell who was who the first time watching the film at times, so color or a glowing purple insignia would be nice.
A. Yes
There’s more questions and answers but they’re kind of spread about the thread. CLICK HERE to go directly to the page where I got these questions from. From there you can search about.

“Parts of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” are set to be filmed in Alamogordo, N.M., home to Holloman. Scenes from the first “Transformers” were shot at Holloman in 2006 and featured aircraft such as the CV-22 Osprey and MH-53 Pave Low.
“About 200 people will be hired as extras to portray military members,” Maryellen Aviano, extras casting coordinator for DreamWorks Pictures, said in an Air Force news release.”

20th Century Boys Premiere in Paris
August 23, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
Paris hosted the world premiere for the live-action 20th Century Boys on Tuesday evening. The film is the first in a trilogy adapted from Naoki Urasawa’s suspense manga of the same name.
Two of the castmembers, Toshiaki Karasawa(Casshern’s Brayking Boss)[right] and Takako Tokiwa (Brave Story’s Cutts)[left], held a press conference in front of the Mona Lisa painting in the Louvre Museum, with 400 people watched the sold-out screening. 200 people reportedly stood in the standby-ticket line, including one male student who waited seven hours.
Karasawa’s character Kenji learns that mysterious deaths and calamities around the world are connected to idle plans he and his childhood friends made decades ago.
Over 20 million copies of the manga’s 22 volumes have been published in 12 countries. Viz Media announced at Comic-Con International this month that it will release the original manga in North America starting next February. The first film will open in Japan on August 30 and then travel overseas to 20 regions in Asia and Europe.

Roadshow Magazine Translation for DragonBall Movie
August 22, 2008
By: Son Goshin
The October issue of Roadshow Magazine in Japan included some interviews of Justin Chatwin and 7 Eleven Studios, who are coordinating the stunts for the Dragon Ball live action movie. DBtheMovie was able to get a translation of the interviews:
Justin Chatwin:
“First of all, it’s an honor to play Goku, because he is a very important and epic character. He is always seeing the positive side of things, does good things, and always trys to help and take care of the weak, not only pursuing his power. He is a dependable and loving man as well as a boy. So I like Goku.
“In preparation for the role, of course I read the original manga (all of it), in addition, I read Monkey King a little, because DragonBall is based on Monkey King. And during the break time of shooting, I got into Goku’s character, telling jokes with other cast in search of the real communication which can be used in acting.
“Highlights of this movie are the action scenes, and amazing visual effects will be made at post production, so I’m looking forward to see it. About Kamehameha I only can imagine it now. I’m so excited. And this movie is the coming-of-age story about a boy, though this is set in a sci-fi world, in my opinion, my best scene is the moment when the characters who got together for the same purpose relate to each other.”

Voltron Update!
August 18, 2008
By: LiveActionVegeta
LatinoReview is reporting, per The Trades, that a Voltron movie might finally start rolling toward the production line.
“Fox-based New Regency has put robot project “Voltron: Defender of the Universe” into turnaround.
Ryan Kavanaugh’s financing and production venture Relativity Media is in negotiations to back the property, though on a more moderate budget, utilizing the type of cost-effective technology employed in films including “300.”
The Mark Gordon Co. still is attached to produce “Voltron,” which is based on the popular Japanese animated TV series of the 1980s.
Mark Gordon and Jordan Wynn are producers. Bryan Zuriff is exec producing. Producers expect to attach a director within the next week.
Relativity would finance and produce the project as part of its one-off picture business and shop it to distributors. In the past, Relativity films have been released by Lionsgate (”3:10 to Yuma”) and Universal (”Mr. Brooks”).”
Last summer, New Regency picked up the rights to the property, adapted by scribe Justin Marks, who’s behind Warner Bros.’ bigscreen versions of “He-Man” and “Green Arrow.”
Marks’ take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth’s invaders.
Technically, New Regency never had the rights to the project, insiders close to the project said. The shingle couldn’t wrap up a deal with “Voltron’s” Japanese rights holders, delaying any further development of the pic.
Talks for “Voltron” were under way before DreamWorks and Paramount successfully launched “Transformers,” but Hollywood’s interest in robot pics based on popular toys or toons grew after “Transformers” hit it big at the B.O., with Warner Bros. snatching up the rights to “Robotech.”
Some may or may not remember that back in 2007 El Mayimbe from Latino Review got his hands on Justin Marks’ Voltron script for a review. In which he gave it an A+! So if you’re curious about what this Voltron movie might entail then I would suggest heading HERE to read it.

DragonBall the Movie in Paperback
August 14, 2008
By: Son Goshin
Yes you read the headline correctly. The live action DragonBall film will be adapted to a children’s paperback book, as is common with many feature films nowadays.
You can see it on bookshelves, or preorder now, for a February 3rd release. But what really makes this newsworthy is the synopsis found on Amazon:
“Read the story based on the hit action film from 20th Century Fox!
Collect all seven Dragon Balls and you can wish for whatever you want!
“Goku thought he was a normal high school student until he found out he’s actually a martial-arts whiz with all kinds of crazy powers. Now he and his new group of teen warriors are on a quest to find all the Dragon Balls before they fall into the wrong hands. But they may already have! Goku must battle the evil madman Piccolo with all he’s got to save the planet Earth!”
Quite an interesting description, even if the book is aimed for a younger audience. You can discuss this over on our Forum.

LAA Podcast #8
August 12, 2008
By: Son Goshin
At long last, the 8th episode of the LAA Podcast is up! Now this is not the coverage from Otakon, this podcast was recorded last Sunday, so sorry for the delay.
We’re a man down in this episode with Vegeta unable to make it this time around, but back once again is special guest Kuhan! We talk about the recent formation of Viz Productions and discuss the possible creation of movies such as Bleach and Naruto. We also get into the big announcement of Cowboy Bebop coming to the big screen, as well as the pair of Jamie Chung interviews on DragonBall. So check it out here or just head on over to ITunes and check it out there.
Unfortuantely though, a few things went wrong with recording at Otakon and we were not able to record anything. However, we’ll discuss Otakon in the next podcast as well as all the news we’ve gotten during that time.
Look for episode 9 this weekend. But for now, enjoy episode 8 right HERE.
Otakon 2008 Report!
August 11, 2008
By: Son Goshin
So, LAA is back from Otakon 2008 in Baltimore, Maryland. And was it a blast! There were plenty of awesome people up there, cosplayers, guests, artists, even members from here! The weekend had many highs, and practically no lows what so ever. While we didn’t get to record any interviews with guests or attendees this weekend, we did get to speak with some of the guests.
Peter Fernandez, the original voice of Speed Racer from the anime, talked to us for a bit on what he thought of the recent live action movie. He said he enjoyed the story, but the races were much too fast for him and he couldn’t keep up.
Laura Bailey, known for doing the voice of kid Chi-Chi and Chibi Trunks talked for a good while with us as well while signing autographs. She has hope for the live action movie and is looking forward to it, but she doesn’t seem too hot on the idea of Jamie Chung playing Chi-Chi in the live action adaptation.
Hironobou Kageyama, who is most famously known for lending his voice to the anime themes for DragonBall Z, made an appearance with JAM Project. While we didn’t get to speak personally with him, I was able to get third row at the band’s amazing concert. Hearing Kageyama sing “Cha-La-Head-Cha-La” was one of the best moments of the entire convention.
We also took part in a DBZ Cosplay Photoshoot as you can see in the picture above. We had a good contingent from LAA there and it was great to see and hang out with everyone! Check out the Cosplay and Convention board for more information on what happened in Baltimore, as well as more pictures, here!

Happy 5th Anniversary!
August 6, 2008
By: Son Goshin
That’s right, today marks the 5th anniversary of our web community here at LAA! Can you believe it, 5 YEARS! Although the site itself is only a little over 2 years old, the web community here has been thriving for much longer.
From humble beginnings over on the Unofficial DBZ Live Action Movie Forums, we brought the rumors and facts to the table at a time when there was much speculation going on about the DragonBall movie, at a time when we were the only place for all things DragonBall after the ownfall of Chainsaw Zombie’s site.
We sat through Mr. Z and many other pretenders, but all that waiting finally paid off with the DragonBall movie coming out this coming spring. That shows how dedicated our community is, we’ve been together for 5 years, and welcomed many new people into the fold. And we’ve become a community in the truest sense with many people meeting up with each other at conventions and various other events, and even some love has been found here!
We hope to enjoy another 5 years and continue bringing up to the minute news on not only DragonBall, but all anime live action while keeping a strong sense of community where everyone is welcome. So make sure to head on over to the Forums and join in on the big 5th anniversary celebration! All this week you’ll be seeing some classic banners up, and maybe even some retro skins later as well! So I personally thank you, the members, for keeping this place going for so long. It wouldn’t be here with out all of you, and each of you makes this place what it is today.

Stubborn Miki, however, refuses to take no for an answer, which leads to a surprising revelation about the secretive young man.
Television writer Sera Gamble (Supernatural) has been hired to pen the adaptation.

More Live Action Afro Samurai Talk!
August 6, 2008
By: Vegeta
Back when Afro Samurai debuted on television there was some rustle and bustle around the net of a possible live action adaptation. Even the Sam-Man himself had hinted to it. Well recently Sam Jackson had an interview with MTV Movie Blogs about just this subject. Here’s what he had to say.
“We have a live-action plan,” Jackson revealed, saying that he wants to see Afro’s battle with Number One up on the big screen with flesh-and-blood actors. “Hopefully, that script will come together and we’ll be able to do that in the next two years or so.”
When asked if he’d take on the role himself, since he voices the character in the series, he had this to say:
“No, I’m not; I won’t be doing that,” he shrugged. “I’ll be the dead father. I’ll show up in some spiritual scenes, and give him some guidance. We’ll find some young guy that is capable of doing all those things and make it really cool.” MTV when on to ask who he’d like to see in the role. “You know, when I look at him, I see Andre 3000,” Jackson grinned. “So, maybe so.”
For those that don’t know Andre 3000, whose real name is Andre Benjamin, is one member of the group Outkast. He’s also acted in several films including Four Brothers.

Megatron to Return… as a Tank?
August 4, 2008

CHUD recently posted some new information on the upcoming Transformers sequel. Of course, Megatron seems to be making his return, but this time, as a tank?
“Megatron may be getting brought back by the Autobots, who need him to conquer the new menace (The Fallen). But I’ve learned that this time he won’t be that weird alien jet. This time he’s a tank.
Megatron apparently was a tank in the Transformers Generation 2 comic or toys or something, so this has some precedent.”

New Jamie Chung Interview on DragonBall
August 1, 2008
By: Son Goshin
Apparently Jamie Chung had more to say on DragonBall at the recent Comic Con, as IGN recently posted a video interview with her, which you can view HERE. Probably what’s most interesting in this interview is that towards the end she mentions, “They don’t show my dad, but maybe we’ll save that for DragonBall Z.” So it would appear that there will be no Ox King in the movie.

In the interview, it was confirmed that The Fallen in the movie’s subtitle will be the main villan:
” We’re going to explore the background of The Fallen — the main villain of the movie — as well as expand on the ‘Reign of Starscream’ story that we’re doing and tie everything in to what this next movie is going to be,” explained writer Chris Mowry, who partners on the book with artist Alex Milne

One of the first scenes we shot was Goku’s bike getting trashed by Texas Battles character “Carey Fuller’s” car. Chatwin says in an adolescent voice “Dude my Bike!”, to which Texas looks over at his friend and responds, “Did you just fart?”
So if that sounds like quality writing, then I guess it’ll be ok. Most of the dialog for the first 6 days follow this kind of teenage drivel…
I was lucky enough to be in the movie so I can only pray they didn’t cut me out of anything, I’m a huge fan so I am very grateful I was able to be in the film but from a critical fan’s point of view I’m going to hate at LEAST the opening scenes dialog, because I, and others, were cringing on set….
Anyway, I also have photo’s on set, I can probably get others, cause we were all taking them, especially of props, like Goku’s bike, etc….
Cya”
He goes on to reference the photo of the classroom scene, with Teto, that we saw awhile back and adds:
“This picture was during one of the few scenes I didn’t get into, I really wanted in these classroom scenes because they were all close ups but there was a lot of political crap going on with the extra casting people… anyway…
Goku with his classmates are looking at pictures of the moon which even a picture causes him to go into a trance and almost transforms him. Chatwin has to stare into the camera in this scene.
I was only on the set for the 6 days of Mexico City filming, I wasn’t chosen to go to Durango… more politics, so ya.”
Also he provided a picture which he says he took along with more magazine scans. To see the hi-res version and the scans click the image below.

“Tyrese said that he’s been very involved in the attempt to bring the classic ’80s cartoon series to the big screen and seemed to hint that a deal is very nearly complete. We asked him what character he’d be playing and he just smiled and said that there’s a number of options on the table.”

Fox Gets Cowboy Bebop!
July 23, 2008
By: Adam
It would seem that a lot of anime fans’ dreams just came true. On Monday Fox signed a deal with Sunrise to gain the rights to make a Live Action Cowboy Bebop movie. Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly) is set to produce the movie and told IFMagazine.com the project is “in the really early stages” since the parties “just signed it the other day.”

Stoff goes on to say that there will be “a real degree of faithfulness,” with the movie. He also had this to say: “When I met with them in Japan, one of the first things that I brought up was the experience that we had on A Scanner Darkly, and how hard we worked to remain faithful to Philip K. Dick, and that was our big concern here.”
So it seems that the ball is starting to get rolling for the adaptation of the classic series known as Cowboy Bebop. We’ll keep you posted as more information becomes available. For now, discuss this most excellent news over on the Forums.
VIZ Productions to Produce Several Live Action Anime
July 22, 2008
By: Son Goshin
It would seem that folks up at VIZ Media have created a new arm in their corporation. VIZ Productions has been created and apparently, their task is to produce live action American movies of Japanese manga and anime. ICv2 recently spoke with VIZ Productions Head of Production, Jason Hoff, in a lengthy interview. Here’s a small snippet of it, and thanks to Vegetasgirl for the heads up:
The announcement said you’re planning to have some properties licensed out to studios to make, and others that you might keep in-house. Do you have any guidelines or particular strategies in terms of what things you might want to keep in-house vs. the things you license out?
“Frankly, all of that is still evolving now, and it would be difficult to talk about specific strategies. One model certainly is that we’re going to be making mostly studio movies– it’s a version of the basic film-producer model. It’ll be a little bit different in that we’ll also be working with the parent companies and the creators in Japan and representing their interests in the United States. Otherwise, we will serve as a production company, which means that we’re going to be taking the existing source material and try to sell it to the studios and mostly have the screenplays paid for and developed by the studios and have the studios finance and distribute the movies.
We think that these titles are going to be strong enough to attract very significant acting, directing and writing talent. And more and more, the studios have been buying a little bit less on concept and looking more to buy properties that do have talent attachment. I’ve worked with a lot of directors in my career and many screenwriters and we’ll be looking to use that base and move beyond that as well to attach talent to our properties often before we bring them into the studios.
Over the last several years, some of the early adopters of Japanese animation and manga have been young filmmakers. Certainly people like the Wachowskis and many others–Quentin Tarantino, maybe Zack Snyder–a lot of these guys show a manga influence and they love this stuff. So to some degree, in trying to attach talent to these properties we hope that we’ll be preaching to the choir and an audience that is already familiar with this stuff and hopefully wanting to make movies of our manga. “
We already know that a new Death Note movie is coming. Does this mean that we can also see popular titles making a debut on the big screen such as Bleach and Naruto? Read the entire interview above and don’t forget to discuss this over on our Forums.

No Dragonball Trailer with Space Chimps or The Dark Knight
July 17, 2008
There were some rumors that the Dragonball trailer may release with the Fox film Space Chimps. Live Action Anime can now confirm, via a very reliable source, that there is no Dragonball trailer showing with Space Chimps or The Dark Knight.
So it doesn’t seem we’ll be seeing one this week. And unless it’s with another company the remaining likely summer Fox Films for the trailer to debut with are; X-Files (June 25), The Rocker (August 20th), and Babylon A.D. (August 29).
Other than that we probably won’t see one until Fall or Winter. Purely speculating, if it were a winter released trailer my best guess would be The Day The Earth Stood Still (December 12).
What’s your guess? Discuss on our Forums!
New Michael Bay Interview
July 17, 2008
Micheal Bay, director of Transformers recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to talk about his upcoming projects, including Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. While he didn’t say much on the movie itself, he did grace us with at least a little commentary:
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What can you tell us about Transformers 2? Or, better yet, what will you tell us?
MICHAEL BAY: When we were writing the script, I said to the writers, “I hate sequels that try to make it to the third movie. Pretend like we’re never having a third movie, so let’s go for broke on the second one. I hate those cliffhangers! Let’s just make this movie stand on its own.” I really feel this movie is not a forced sequel. I think the script is really good, and I think it’s got a lot of new stuff in it. There are a lot of rumors out there, but we’ve released a lot of fake stuff. We’ve done a really good job of keeping things secret.
Can you give us a hint of something that is true then?
[Laughs] No.
C’mon, anything?
There are some great, new robots that are really inventive.

Justin Chatwin in Playboy!
July 16, 2008
Sorry for getting this up a little late everyone, we get busy on other things over here from time to time. But, if you haven’t seen it yet there was a new magazine scan found of Justin Chatwin as Goku.
This comes from Dukemon from DBMB Apparently it’s a scan from Playboy magazine?? Check it out below. Click the pic to see the hi-res. Also courtesy of Dragonballfilm.es we’ve got a picture with no words and a rough translation. We’ll start you off with the translation:
The premiere of the film with real actors of Dragonball is determined. The Kamehameha will be released across Japan on March 13, 2009. “This film is the story of a teenage boy, and I love Goku” said Chatwin. Chow Yun Fat is the master Roshi. What will happen to the scene funny “Pafu-Pafu”?
Emmy Rossum is BULMA. She mounted on motorcycles quite cool.
Now the film is real Dragonball in production in Hollywood, its official release date is determined. On Friday the March 13, 2009 the film will be premiered in Japan ahead of the rest of the world.
Suffice it to say that Dragonball is the great masterpiece of manga Akira Toriyama. It has sold over 300 million copies around the world so far and is still sold. In this movie, and hopeful young actor Justin Chatwin, Hollywood, plays the role of the star Goku. Talking about their favorite scenes, “I think we are the scenes of action. They (producers) are filled with many scenes very ambitious than ever seen before. The Kamehameha is also very provocative. “
The brilliant actress Emmy Rossum plays BULMA, who travels with Goku. “The Emperor of Asian cinema” Chow Yun-Fat interprets the teacher Roshi. James Marsters to Piccolo. And the Japanese world-class actress in Hollywood actively Eriko Tamura makes Mai. Although much of this film still remains secret, here are four images extraneous Shuupure (Weekly Playboy) succeeded in secret. How will Goku aimpedir that the ambitious Piccolo destroy the world? The next March, his secret will be revealed.

More Translations from Jump SQ
July 13, 2008
DBtheMovie has gotten more translations of this month’s issue of Jump SQ (See July 4th). We get to heat a little bit more on character descriptions here:
“Justin Chatwin (Goku) appeared in front of them. Goku had blue eyes. The author of this manga (Akiba Zaijuu) felt Justin has a boyish nature, as well as Goku. He was wearing the blue gi, not orange. Justin said “My gi with Kame mark (orange gi) is still in the making. I’m looking forward to see how it will be made. I hope it will become what you all like.”
The author remembered he saw and talk with Mayes Rubeo (costume designer) before. She said “I kept trying for the children of the little village I grew up won’t be disappointed with it. I made more than thirty prototypes for only Goku’s gi.” She seemed to be ambitious and having fun, so he felt she sure can make a good costume. And about Justin, his blue gi was cool, but not only the costume design, but his buffed up muscle enhanced his look. Because he has been training for seven months for Goku’s role. The author remembered Goku also have trained for eight months under Master Roshi when Goku was a child in the original. Coincidence?
When the Japanese magazine press interviewed Justin, suddenly the tank top man came into the room. He shouted “Omochi!(rice cake)” in Japanese. He tried to eat Kusa-dango of Asakusa Tokyo (it was souvenir from Japan) there but he accidentally dropped it on the ground and it got dirty with sand. But he didn’t care, he picked it up and ate it. He was a very wild man. The author wondered who he was.
Next Emmy Rossum’s interview. She said her active and cheerful character resembled Bulma. She’s a brilliant young actress and also a good singer. Bulma’s hair is not all blue, but have blue streaks. Make-up artist Mr. Gomez told us the reason that all blue hair is too strong as a live-action, so he was requested not to do that. So he proposed sixteen hairstyle and make-up designs which kept the image of the original, but they were all turned down.
After that time he came up with the present hairstyle and make-up. Emmy said, “Did you look at the three-wheeled motorcycle? There are two same motorcycles and they promise I will get one of them after the filming. Other one may be gotten by someone here!” they asked her what her favorite Mexican food was and she said “Gorditas! I like Gorditas.”

Piccolo “Spoiler”; Possible DragonBall Teaser Clip
July 12, 2008
Dragonball Film has gotten their hands on another piece of information concerning the movie. This time, we learn about what kind of powers Piccolo is supposed to possess in the film:
“I think everybody remembers how is born Piccolo. Kami-Sama has seperated the devil part of himself, and created a sort of evil clone: Piccolo. So in the movie, Piccolo will have quite a similar power. According to Cloud, Piccolo will be able to reveal the dark side of anybody, and to create an evil clone of the people.”
So what does this mean? Evil versions of Goku and the gang? Will Kami still be involved in all this? This raises even more questions if true. The source of the information is supposed to have a revelation as well on Goku in the coming days.
Also, a short clip of what appears to be a teaser is floating around. Check it out and judge for yourself HERE. Don’t forget, you can discuss all this new information over on our Forums.

Jose Fernandez Talks DragonBall
July 8, 2008
Looks like yet another member of the cast and crew of the DragonBall film has spoken. This time, DBMB got ahold of Jose Fernandez, the founder of Ironhead Studios who is the company doing the effects for the film:
DBMB: How did you get involved with Dragonball? Was there some sort of “auditioning” process or where you approached by Fox/James Wong?
JF: I was approached by Fox. I”ve done a handful of films for them, so we have a bit of a relationship.
DBMB: What characters did you work on in this film?
JF: In the early design phase I worked on almost, if not every character. After the initial drawings, the director and studio chose what they did and didn’t want to use. As far as final design and fabrication, I was responsible for Piccolo’s full costume and armor, everything except for his makeup, which ADI was responsible for. I also assisted Mayes Rubeo with realizing Goku’s costume and gi.
DBMB: What was it like working with the cast and crew?
JF: Other than James Marsters, I had little contact with the cast. I was only on set for a couple of days to make sure that the costumes were maintained, and looked the best they could on film.
DBMB: What was James Wong like as a director?
JF: I didn’t have the pleasure of working with James in depth. We met in a few preliminary meetings and e-mailed a few times. He seemed very focused and open to creative ideas.
DBMB: What was James Wong looking for in terms of character design?
JF: Well, James seemed to have a healthy respect for the source material. He wanted to create a memorable world that satisfied fans, but also was grounded in reality.

“New” Concept Art for Transformers

What would you say if you found out that an aircraft carrier was to make an appearance in the first Transformers movie? Well now’s the time to figure that out, as it was actually a reality. Seems that this particular Transformer didn’t make it into the first movie, but according to Michael Bay it could make an appearnce in the sequel. Then again, we all know about the disinformation he’s been putting out. Anyways, here’s a look at some of the concept art by Tim Flattery. To see more, just click on the picture:

James Marsters on DragonBall
July 7, 2008
DBTheMovie was able to translate the Jump Square interview with James Marsters on his role as Piccolo, and the Dragonball movie in general. Check it out below.
What is the difference between the original and the live-action movie ?
JM: Definitely the story of this movie is different from the original. But it’s a necessary change because we need to condense the long story of the original for a movie. For example, some characters in the original don’t appear in the movie. And we try to give it a more gritty and graphic (realistic) feeling.
Though there are differences between the two, I think it is all right if the core part of Dragonball remains. I let my son watch the anime’s Dragonball, DBZ and DBGT since he was eight years old. At first, I thought it was too violent, but I realized this is the best show for training to become a true man. True men need not to flaunt themselves. Their calm, gentle and modest but when it comes to the crunch they don’t hesitate to kill the enemy, and I think that’s what Goku is.
Goku is a real man. I know my son received such a message and applied it to his own life. My son doesn’t use violence to others, but he isn’t afraid of his own anger. I think it’s an important thing.
How many hours does it take to apply the make-up?
JM: It takes about four hours. Luckily, my make-up artist is very chatty, we have a lot of chat during the make up.
Please tell us the most remarkable scene in the movie, especially action scenes!
JM: It is the last battle after all! I like playing the battle scene. When I worked for a TV show for seven years, every Friday I fought till sun rise, I felt I would never have such a good time again until now. In addition, I have never gotten terribly hurt (laugh).
Do you talk with other co-stars as well?
JM: When I have a problem, I have a talk with Justin [Chatwin]. At first, we worried about the costumes. We thought it should reflect the spirit of the original, we persisted this through to the producers. We didn’t want to make our characters beautiful and safe. I talked with Justin, and he agreed with me. So did the director.
What do you care about in acting for this movie?
JM: That’s a good question. Speaking of Piccolo, one word comes into my mind, it’s “loneliness”. Piccolo is always floating in the air in the beautiful landscape, but he never even admires the landscape, he is only thinking or musing and staring at his feet. I think that is a characteristic of piccolo more than anything else.
Maybe it must be a characteristic for revenge. He hates himself and blames the people who has trapped him. His desire to kill not only them but their family, furthermore to destroy the city and the planet they live and protect. To get revenge is everything to him. Everything.
How was shooting in Durango?
JM: The desert of Durango is very cold at night (laugh). I was luckily wearing armor, but Goku was freezing at the beginning of shooting. The local people are very kind and get along with us. Besides they love to party very much! If I didn’t have work, I would be willing to join them. They are drinking and singing songs until 4:30 a.m. But I need to sleep for the shooting the next day, after all so I changed the hotel to get away from the partying people.
Finally, please give us a message to our readers in Japan.
JM: Japan is beautiful. Thank you for giving Dragonball to us! It’s an important show to us all and I want you to watch it, especially the young people. I thank the show for a lot of good times with my son. I’ll do my best to meet the high expectations the fans have.

Ben Ramsey Speaks on DragonBall; More From Cast and Crew
July 6, 2008
Lots of DragonBall movie info has been making its way around lately. DragonBall Film got in contact with Ben Ransey, who ahd to say this about the leaked script from a few months back:
“I haven’t read the leaked script so I don’t know if it was one of my drafts or not. Plus I am not at liberty to comment on it one way or the other.
I have not seen the whole film yet but what I’ve seen looks incredible. It was an absolute honor to be a part of Dragonball history. I am a big fan of James Wong’s work and I am confident that he made a movie that will thrill die-hard fans and non-fnas alike.
I’d like to thank all the fans for their support and for helping to promote the movie. With your help Goku, Roshi, Bulma, Yamcha, Chi Chi and Piccolo will rule the Universe in 2009.
Kamehameha!
Ben”
Also, Casey Hotchkiss who is the camera operator on the film left DragonBall Film a comment saying: “Working on DragonBall was a great experience. Jim Wong is incredible. He knows what he wants and won’t quit until he gets his shots.”
And also, DragonBall Live was able to get an interview with the story board artist, Dan Fraga:
Did you inform yourself and get inspiration on the anime to create your story board ? Were you inspired by Akira Toriyama’s style ?
Before being asked to work on Dragon Ball, I was already a fan of the Anime. I had maybe around 20 issues of the manga, but it was in Japanese, so I really could only look at the pictures. The first time I had ever heard of Dragon Ball was in 1993 when a fellow comic book artist showed me the Anime on a VHS tape. It was a bootleg from Japan. What inspired me most about Dragon Ball Z was the level of energy and dynamics that was put into the action sequences. If anything, that’s what I tried to bring with me to my work on the film.
A lot of rumours are saying that the film will be a PG, Will it definately be a PG and not a PG 13 ? or even an R rated movie ? In our opinion an PG13 or R rated movie is more appropriate for the dragon ball universe ?
While I can’t comment on the Rating of the Dragon Ball film, I will comment on that I’d personally prefer an R rating. My first job on a film was on The Transporter 2. Originally, we filmed an R rated movie, and unfortunately, Luc and Fox wanted more “butts in seats” so it was brought down to PG-13. I really feel that the film suffered because of it. As far as Dragon Ball is concerned, I think that Jim directed an incredible film. I’m sure if his intended cut makes it to the screen, you’ll be happy.
You can read the rest of the interview at the link above. So that’s a lot of news, which means that’s a lot to talk about. So head on over to our Forums to discuss it all.

DragonBall Trailer This Month?
July 1, 2008
In a world of uncertainty and confusion, Fox’s Christina Inman adds even more to the confusion. Or has cleared it up. One of the two. We’ve heard reports that the trailer for DragonBall would appear from as soon as this past month, to as late as this year’s holiday season. However, rumors started spreading that a short teaser was shown at the Cinema Expo in Amsterdam a few weeks ago. It turns out this information was true.
A member over on DBtheMovie recieved an e-mail from Inman in which she states, “A small teaser with a few scenes of the film was shown at Cinema Expo 2008, So maybe the beginning of next month or at the end of this you might see one [a trailer] soon…”
So there you have it. The upcoming “Space Chimps” or “X-Files” movie could be a possibility for this teaser to be attached to as their release dates are July 18th. Time will tell though, and we’ll keep you posted as more information surfaces. Don’t forget to discuss these new developments over on our Forums.

Dragonball Footage Shown at Cinema Expo
June 25, 2008
Screen Daily has a short recap up from the Cinema Expo in Amsterdam. In the article they mention that delegates at the expo were shown footage/trailers/teasers of upcoming Fox films, including Dragonball.
So the speculation now is was it just footage or was it a trailer? If it was a trailer than I would guess that it won’t be too long before it hits the public. Time will tell.

Two More Transformers Videos!
June 24, 2008
Transformers.movichronicles.com has put up two more videos. These coming from PhillyFilmGirl.
The first isn’t too interesting. It shows Megan Fox and Ramon Rodriguez stretching.
The second is more exciting though. It shows what seems to be the return of Frenzy attacking a car. What’s cool about it is that it’s animatronic. So at least that shows that not everything in the movie is going to be CGI!

Transformers “2″ No More; New Bumblebee Pics
June 23rd, 2008
Having “2″ in a title never has had that quite great a ring to it. It would seem that the people working on the new Transformers movie have to agree. According to Super Hero Hype, the “2″ will be dropped off the film’s title and simply be called, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”.
Also, it would seem that Bumblebee will now be getting a new makeover for the sequel. Jalopink has some new pictures of the car, a 2010 Camaro featuring the Bumblebee paint job. Don’t forget, you can disucss all this over on our Forums.

New Distributor/Cast Members For AstroBoy – Plus Gatchaman!
June 16, 2008
In a recent press release from Imagi Studios (TMNT), sent to Latino Review, it was revealed that an agreement has been entered into with Summit Entertainment for worldwide distribution rights. This would exclude territories that Imagi has reserved which are: US, Japan, Hong Kong, and China. Word came from a joint announcement by Rob Friedman, Co-Chairman and CEO of Summit Entertainment and Douglas Glen, CEO of Imagi Studios.
“We are pleased to join with Imagi Studios in bringing the exceptional world of ASTRO BOY to both existing and a new generation of fans alike,’ said Friedman. ‘The team at Imagi Studios is capturing the spirit of this popular post-modern franchise by doing great things with the story, characters and animation. ASTRO BOY promises to be an excellent addition to our existing slate of family films.”
Joining the cast of the CGI Animated film will be Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland,Nathan Lane, Bill Nighy and Eugene Levy. And, as previously reported, Astro Boy will be voiced by Freddie Highmore.
Astroboy, directed by David Bowers, is set in futuristic Metro City and is about a young robot with incredible powers created by a brilliant scientist to replace the son he has lost. Unable to fulfill the grieving father’s expectations, our hero embarks on a journey in search of acceptance, experiencing betrayal and a netherworld of robot gladiators, before he returns to save Metro City andreconcile with the man who had rejected him. It’s based on the 50’s/60’s Japanese manga/anime of the same name.
Some other news from Imagi is that they’re currently working on another anime inspired film with Gatchaman.
There isn’t any new news on this but I don’t believe we’ve reported on it since our home page came online. I figured now is a good time to let those fans know who aren’t aware.
Gatchaman will be a CG-animated feature film. It’s based on the anime television series from the 70’s titled Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. When aired in the U.S. it was known as Battle of the Planets and G-Force.
“Set in a future world grappling with environmental and technological issues, the story focuses on five reluctant heros whose remarkable genetic code make them Earth’s only hope of defeating extra-terrestrial invaders. Gatchaman will be a big, effect-rich movie with some of the most ambitious action sequences ever seen in animation.”
Check out Imagi Studio’s official page for some cool pictures from the production! Just click on the Gatchaman link under films.
Both AstroBoy and Gatchaman are slated for a 2009 release date.

June 16, 2008
Another picture from the expo in New York has surfaced via the Super Hero Hype boards. Only thing is, this particualr picture might disappoint more than the others. Read on:
So apparently, Fox wants a PG rating for this movie, even though it was previously believed they’d be shooting for a PG-13 rating. What does this mean for the actual movie? Only time will tell. For now, you can discuss this over on our Forums.

Surprise…Surprise…Surprise!
June 10, 2008
In a MOST SHOCKING turn of events (and yes I’m being sarcastic) the so called “leaked script” of Ben Ramsey’s has been reported as a “fake.” I say “fake” because it’s be confirmed that it isn’t the script for the movie. However, we don’t know if it’s actually Ben Ramsey’s script or not.
The confirmation come from Joker over at MovieLand. He says he emailed Christina Inman, manager of Fox in Mexico and she said not to worry as this is not being used on the film.
Joker also mentions the fragment pages of the script which appeared on the internet around the same time (which you can view here), he says they’re real as they were left behind in a restaurant by a crew member.

American Death Note Remake in Development
June 9, 2008
With the recent success that the Death Note live action movie had in US theater’s last month (over 65,000 tickets sold in two days), it would seem that past rumors of an English remake are going to come true. ANN reported recently that Vertigo Entertainment will be making a new adaptation.
Vertigo is the production company that brought us remakes of other classic Japanese movies such as The Grudge and Shutter. Vlas and Charles Parlapanides are going to be writing the new script. Nothing else is known on the project, but we’ll let you know once more info is out there. For now, you can discuss this news over on our Forums.
Rumor: DragonBall Script Leaked?
June 8, 2008
Seems that recently there has been a lot of rumors going around the web, and IMDB, that the script for the DragonBall live action movie has been leaked, the original written by Ben Ramsey. Thanks to BIGBMH for the heads up. Now keep in mind, we have no way of validating the autheticity of this supposed script.
Chances would be high it’s a fake as anybody could write up a script, as many people have already done on our forums. So it’d be best to take whatever you read from this with a grain of salt at this time. If you want to check it out, you can read it HERE.
Don’t forget you can discuss all of this over on our Forums.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen!
June 6, 2008
According to an article at Hasbro.com the official title for Transformers 2 is Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen.
The site says that you can”expect a key character from the first movie to make a dramatic comeback and attempt to settle a score.”
This seems to confirm the previous news that Jazz will be returning.
However, Latino Review posted up an interesting message that they had recieved from a reader which said:
“The Fallen is a Transformer in the Generation 1 continuity family (and possibly in more).
At the dawn of time, Primus created new life, the 13 original Transformers, to crew his planetary form into battle against his eternal nemesis Unicron. One of these 13, his original name now lost to the mists of time, turned against his siblings, his creator, and his universe, and betrayed them all.”
Click here to go to Latino Review to read the full message.
Also tfw2005.com got their hands on a leaked call sheet. They also say that, “A lot of it is speculative, however TFW2005 can verify that the mentioned “Arcee Motorcycles” are on set, and have been seen by myself and 2005 Boards Member BMGFX.”

Interview on Batman Manga!
June 5, 2008
Publisher’s Weekly has an interesting interview up with Yoshinori Natsume (Togari) on his American debut of Batman: Death Mask, a 4-issue miniseries published by DC Comics.
Here’s a snippet:
“PW Comics Week: How did this project develop? Is there something that drew you to the Batman character?
Yoshinori Natsume: While I was looking for a company to publish Togari in America, I met someone from DC Comics. After looking at my series, he asked me, “How would you like to try doing ‘Batman’?” At first, I was at a loss for words when asked to participate in the ongoing saga of a legendary character. I was thinking, “Are you sure you’ve got the right guy?” But then I reflected that in Japan, I made my mark on a series about a dark hero with a tragic past, done in a very shadowy style. Anyway, as the days went by, the image I had of Batman grew bigger and bigger in my mind, until I felt like, “You know, I might actually be able to do this.”
PWCW: What was your previous exposure to Batman? Did you do any research for this project?
YN: My first experience was with the Tim Burton movies, but after that a friend of mine lent me [Frank Miller’s] The Dark Knight Returns and other Batman comics. For this project, I was given Jim Lee’s Batman: Hush and some other books. I’ll tell you, I was blown away by the art in today’s American comics. After that, I got to reading various titles that caught my attention. Incidentally, this is just a coincidence, but when I was a kid, a bat flew into my room one night. I caught it, set it free outside and let it slip my mind. 20 years later, before starting work on this, I suddenly remembered what happened that night.”
In Death Mask, Batman investigates his own past as the city of Gotham is terrorized by a serial killer who has ties to the martial arts training that turned millionaire Bruce Wayne into the Dark Knight.

New Cast Member, Pictures, and Video!
June 3, 2008
Some more great Transformers 2 news flowing in. First up MTV Movie Blogs has the scoop of the newest cast member to climb aboard Transformers 2. His name, Mathew Marsden.
“Marsden has been cast in the role of “Graham,” a character who is part of the British Special Forces. Although the film’s plot is being kept under the tightest veils of secrecy, it is known that the flick will depict an even more worldly battle than the first “Transformers” film, and will shoot all over the globe. In the sequel, Graham teams with Duhamel and Tyrese’s military characters, joining their efforts as they do battle with the evil Decepticons.”

20 Transformers?
June 2, 2008
Screenwriter Roberto Orci recently made a comment, regarding the number of robots in Transformers, on the Don Murphy Message board saying:
“I’d love and think we could almost barely manage ten on each side, with some front and center and others as more supporting.”
So will we be seeing 10 Autobots and 10 Decepticons? That would be one hell of a fight!

note: Don Murphy is a producer.
Forum Server Problems
June 1, 2008
Some of you might be experiencing problems accessing our forums. It seems that it’s an on and off thing and we’re currently looking into it. We are not sure if it is related to the recent Zetaboards conversion or not, but when trying to access the official Zetaboard’s website, the same thing happens. So it would appear to be some sort of server problem on Zetaboard’s end.
Perhaps it’s matienence or they’re having problems themselves. Just keep trying and hopefully it’ll straighten itself out soon. In the meantime we’ll be doing whatever we can to try to remedy the problem and get the boards running again as soon as possible. Try refreshing the page a few times or post the link to the forum in another window, those seem to work with some success. We’ll also have the next podcast up for you guys late tonight or tomorrow to hold you over.
Thank you for your patience.
