US Death Note LAA script leaked?

News of an American Death Note LAA has been kicking about for a while, and now it appears that a draft of the movie’s script, penned by Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, has been leaked online. You can check it out at this link:

It’s labelled “First Draft”, dated April 7th, 2009, and copyrighted to Warner Bros. This is, obviously unofficial, but judging by the presentation and general quality, it certainly appears to be genuine. Apart from transposing the action to America and removing Ryuk from the proceedings, it’s also remarkably faithful in spirit to the original source material. Watch this space.

Warner Bros. Secures American Death Note LAM

If you remember almost a year ago, Vertigo Entertainment revealed that they would be developing an American adaptation of the Death Note films. Yesterday, Variety confirmed that Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to turn the beloved horror manga and anime series to the big screen in the United States.

Brothers Charles and Vlas Parlapanides are still on as screenwriters, and producers for the film include Vertigo Entertainment’s own Roy Lee and Doug Davidson (The Lake House), as well as Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) and Brian Witten (Final Destanation). This announcement comes right after the third Death Note movie finished its run for the first time in American theaters. Death Note: L, Change the WorLd Trailer Up

The American trailer for the 3rd Death Note Movie, L, Change the WorLd is now streaming over at Fathom Events website.

Tickets are on sale now for the movie, which will run in theaters for two nights. Wedensday, April 29th, and Thursday, April 30th with a 7:30 PM local start time for both days. The first night will have the movie with subtitles while the second night will be overdubbed. Check out fathom Events to a find a theater near you that’s playing the film. Death Note Spinoff Movie Coming to the US

Yesterday, ANN reported that VIZ Pictures and NCM have announced that the third Death Note movie, Death Note: L, change the WorLd, will be premiering in theaters around the nation on April 29 and 30.

The movie will be shown in over 400 theaters at 7:30 pm local time. The press release states: ““Fathom’s ongoing relationship with VIZ Pictures has brought the best in live-action manga events to Fathom-networked theatres and will bring the anxiously awaited third event in the Death Note series to select theatres in April,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of Fathom.

“Death Note: L, change the WorLd stars Kenichi Matsuyama, an up-and-coming Japanese actor who has also appeared in acclaimed films such as Death Note, LINDA LINDA LINDA, NANAand DETROIT METAL CITY,” says Seiji Horibuchi, president and CEO of VIZ Pictures. “He reprises his role as the ace detective L and audiences will be riveted to their seats as his character once again works to save society from a monstrous new threat.”
