Tests for Battle Angel adaptation continue.

Thanks go, once again, to informer Mikikazu Komatsu of the ULTIMO SPALPEEN blog for happening upon this piece of news. According to blog Marketsaw, tech tests for CGI and motion-capture in James Cameron’s proposed adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s classic manga Battle Angel Alita are currently underway.

It’s worth noting that we don’t know how viable this article is, as the source of info, allegedly close to James Cameron, remains anonymous and only vaguely characterised. Mind you, this info is reaching us only two months after Cameron expressed his continuing interest in the project, so it’s hardly outside the realm of possibility that Battle Angel could be met with a green light.

An obvious contributing factor will be the success of Avatar, which may or may not open the way for 3D CGI-based movies to be made relatively cheaply and easily. All we know for absolutely sure at this point is that the Battle Angel concept has the potential to be unbelievably cool. As Marketsaw’s “source” says: “Now picture the “Angel of Death” looking like a child. a 14 year old. Now imagine this, this little girl goes through these guys like butter. Did you see the KICK-ASS trailer? Well imagine that girl via the Matrix via Ghost in the shell, via AI.”

Hence why I remain excited about this film.
