Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy Live-Action Gets DVD Box Set
The live action Astro Boy series (1959-1960) will finally have a DVD box set release in Japan on October 23. The live action series was actually made four years before the original Astro Boy Anime, and during the opening sequence 75 seconds were cel-animated meaning the live action series opening actually is the first animated version of Astro Boy.
Only 58 of the 65 live action episodes have survived over the years, but Geneon Universal Entertainment is set to release those 58 episodes on DVD for the very first time.
IMAGI’s computer animated version of Astro Boy is set to release on October 10 in Japan, and the North American release (October 23) is set to coincide with this live action Astro Boy DVD box set release in Japan.
