New Live Action TMNT Promised to be Darker!
With all the great news coming out of Comic Con we get some awesome news for TMNT fans! Producers Scott Mednick and Galen Walker were in attendance and spoke about some plans for the upcoming live action TMNT movie.
“I love the Turtles. They have a special quality, the key is that we want to make the greatest Turtle movie ever,” Walker said, “In the world we live in today, in the golden age of superhero movies, we need to get back to where this all started.”
“The interesting thing about TMNT was the combination of action and humor, and Steve Barron (director from the first movie) added one thing, heart. We want and need to go back to that. Let’s make sure we don’t dishonor what has been before, and let’s create something new,” added Mednick.
“Our point of view is this: go back and look at the original Turtles comics. They are very dark. The audience is much more sophisticated than they were in 1990. This is 2009. Take the new Harry Potter for example. It is rated PG and it’s still a very dark film. We are headed that direction,”
So as you can see it looks as though we may finally get a movie that comes closest to (if not capturing) what a Ninja Turtles movie should be. The first movie from the 90s is by and far the best of the entire franchise, and with them not only going back to live action but also darker tones; we could be in store for one totally awesome movie! Maybe it’ll be the Batman Begins for Ninja Turtles. One can hope.
