Live Action Full Metal Panic!

Mandalay Pictures has licenced the film rights to Full Metal Panic! The story centers around Sergeant Sousuke Sagara a solder in a private army known as Mithril sent to protect high school student Chidori Kaname by trying to act as a regular high school student. Actor Zac Efron is reportedly very interested in the lead role of Sousuke Sagara.

  1. Zac Efron actually looks a bit like Sousuke. I just really hope that whoever gets the role for Chidori, they make the hair blue. That’s the only way I would watch it – if she gets blue hair.

  2. are u friggin kidding me, i had to check the date again to make sure it’s not april 1st

  3. This is bull..this is officially two live action movie opportunities stole from me…

  4. ..But ZAC EFRON?! WTF?!

  5. I would have cast better..who else Vanessa Hudgens as Chidori, anyone?
And like DBE,dye a string of her hair blue, like they did to Bulma
    FUK THIS!

  6. ZAC EFRON?! No way, no hell way…

He cannot touch FMP! No way!

  7. Actually, I thought it was alright to dye a strand of Bulma’s hair blue instead of making it completely blue in DBE… I just don’t think blue hair works in movies.

  8. WTF???????? zac efron???? no way, zac efron is a shit

    TToTT

no se metan kon mi full metal panic

  9. What’s with all these actors interested in live action movies?

    I mean, he’s not terrible.
He gets a bad rep for High School musical.

    But who knows.

Actually, I’ll be really upset if they turn this into
some shitty teen comedy / robot movie.
You know, like transformers meets high school musical or something.

Also, i’d like to see them avoid a disney ending.

  11. Guys stop it. I know its shocking and frustrating that Zac Efron is interested in the role. But don’t go into conclusion cause we’re not sure of who is gonna have the leading role. He is one of the options for the lead role. I know he starred in HSM, HSM2, and HSM3. But I think its a good chance for him to star him in this role. Just give him a chance or so. Don’t flame me if this was kinda offensive to yall.

  12. Elysium – I agree it did look good on Bulma on the film…but i’m saying that, they might do it in this film cause there is no way that will work..or especially if they make her blond..Oh no,i can’t give them ideas!

  13. Jt, i was going to say the same thing. no way…how the hell could they possibly make a live action fullmetal panic! and zac efron being interested in it!!!!!!!!! no freaking way. this has to be some kind of joke. Adam, if it is your way of a joke, its definatly not funny. seriously i really don’t believe this. so just tell us its all a joke ok….ok?

  14. I actually used to think of Zak Efron as a possible good teen Goku. The main thing that would rule him out, in my opinion, is the whole High School Musical thing. For a role like Goku I never really wanted to see anyone who was recognizable from a previous role.

I don’t know anything about Full Metal Panic, but Zak Efron seems like an ok casting choice from the perspective that he does resemble the character. But I’d have to think that they’ll end up changing his name to something other than Sousuke Sagara if Efron does indeed take the role. Otherwise it would be kind of weird. Unless there is some story behind the name like Goku and an adoption.

  15. Regarding hair color in film. Any hair color can pretty much work if you have a talented art department, and filmmakers who want it to work. It has nothing to do with a color looking right on film or not, because you can always tone it down if need be, and nearly everything to do with mise en scene. It’s all about making it fit the character, and the environment. You might not end up with the same exact look or shade from the source material, but one can’t say that it “WON’T” work. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about film it’s that anything in is possible you just have to be up for the challenge.

I mean look at films like The Fifth Element where you have a character with bright orange hair. And the movie Immortal you have a character that has blue hair. And there is nothing distracting about the colors in either film. Because the filmmakers make it work.

So really there isn’t any reason that they CAN’T make the hair blue. It’s more a matter of if they want to make it blue.

  16. It’s the real deal guys FMP is getting the live action treatment:

Anime News Networks post about it:

  17. I just watched this show and got into it. Damn you Zac Effron.

  18. Actually, Zac Effron won’t be so bad. And he’ll probably bring some appeal to the movie. Those who don’t know FMP would probably watch it just to see Zac Effron. And his action scenes could be minimal, instead, focusing on Giant Robot action. But it very well depends on who’s playing Chidori.

  19. Hmmm…

Many of the reply’s here are irrelevant. They didn’t license the Anime or the Manga, they licensed the novels.

Kanami is described as having dark brown eyes and hip length black hair in the novel. So all the talk of hair color is pretty much meh…

Also there are plenty of actors that started in kiddy flicks or at Disney and went on to adult careers. So that isn’t really important either. I don’t think he is right for the part because he just doesn’t look hardened enough to be a mercenary who had spent his life on battlefields. Sousuke should have a rougher look.

  20. now this just sux ass bigtym!
they shud just go and change the title to full musical panic too

  21. SSand: Very true. I always make it a point of educating people on Kaname’s hair color.

  22. I’m really not that against Zac Efron being Sousuke…people only dislike him because he’s in high school musical but he’s actually a very good actor. I find it in poor taste that people jump to conclusions because an actor was in a film they didn’t like, so they dub him ‘unworthy’ :/
