Dragonball Evolution PSP Game Review

Before I start with this review I’d like to apologize for some of the images from the game. None of them really turned out great and most are very blurry. I really need to invest in a newer camera.

Overall the game isn’t to bad. I’d say my main complaint is in the story mode you have a lot of text to read in between your fights. Also you have to win every fight to move the story along, even though some times after the fight the person you just beat comes back and your character is surprised then your character gets beaten up anyways. Also no jumping and no flying in the game was kind of a downer.

In the game you learn attacks as the story progresses, and you unlock characters by beating the story mode. You also earn Zenies by winning fights. The faster, better your technique, and less health you lose the more money you earn after the fight is over.

About the fights now. In order to beat your opponent you must deplete his energy bar three times(Green, Yellow, then Orange bars) like wise if your energy bar is depleted three times you lose. Like other Dragonball fight games in order to perform more complicated moves, such as the Kamehameha, you must power your character up to a certain level before it can be done. This can prove to be complicated later in the game as your opponents are constantly on you sometimes using super speed disappearing and reappearing behind you. Even when you do your special attacks they pull this and dodge it causing you to loss most of your energy well taking a few powerful hits before you can get away to power up again. After you’ve won your fight you are judged on how fast you won, how good your technique was, and how much health you have at the end of the fight. As I said before the better you do in all three categories the more Zenies you are awarded with, that you can use in the gallery later. You are also given a letter grade on how you did S being the best.

The story mode moves along very fast, although with long periods of text and no action, and the game doesn’t take very long to beat.

The Arcade mode is just like any other fighter game out there pick your character and fight another character.

The one part of the game I am interested in trying out, that I haven’t gotten the chance to yet, would be the Network Battle mode. Looks like that might be were the real replay value of this game comes in.

The game feels just like one of the budokai games, and it is pretty fun. I’m not big on fighter games especially hand held ones myself, but I enjoyed the game, and loved trying to save up my zenies to purchase the behind the scene images from the movie.

Overall I’d give this game a:

3 out of 5

  3. Its okay about the blurry pics Adam. There still great to look at despite it. :)

  4. Adam to ask you this, even though I think the release date of this game is April 7, is this the correct date or its not final yet?

  5. Who the heck is after Piccolo?

  6. I don’t know. I wish someone knows about the last character on the list.

  7. Who are all the unlockable characters in the game?

  8. I think when I watch the demo of Dragonball Evolution for the PSP on YouTube, Goku, Bulma, Master Roshi, Yamcha, and/or Grandpa Gohan are the starting characters while the others are unlockable. Adam, is the correct starting characters or not?

  9. Oops, my last comment was suppose to be this in between is and correct. Sorry.

  10. The last character you unlock (the only one not showing) is Neo Piccolo. He was pretty hard to get, for me anyways.

  11. He forgot to mention that if you get at least an A in every mission, you can unlock two extra scenarios which let you unlock Neo Piccolo. the battles in those scenarios are about three times harder than the battles in the first twelve scenarios.

  12. Okay, that might be hard but thx for telling us on the last character Neo Piccolo which I don’t know who he is. :)
