Earlier today Japanese film studio Sunrise Inc., responsible for the Cowboy Bebop anime, officially announced plans to help in the upcoming live action Cowboy Bebop movie.  The announcement was made on their official site with some translations on ANN.

As we already knew, 20th Century Fox will be producing the film, but also in collaboration with 3 Arts Entertainment, and Sunrise as well.  In addition to that, the associate producers for the film include Sunrise President Kenji Uchida, original series script supervisor Keiko Nobumuto, and best of all, original Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe. Let the fanboys and fangirls rejoice! Other cast and crew members include Joshua Long and Erwin Stoff as supervisors, series producer Masahiko Minami as a production consultant, Keanu Reeves with a starring role, and Peter Craig with the screenplay.  To discuss all this news, head on over to our forums.

  2. Haha! I can almost here the fans cry. The fans will turn this into another dragonball incident! I on the other hand can’t wait how he portrays spike, or how this movie will present itself especially since Peter Craig is writing the script. He’s quite known for his Dark comic novels..

  3. Honestly i´m glad.
Seems like the crew behind the movie, it´s the dreamteam
keanu…well i hope he can step up to the challenge

  4. I bet Keanu will pull through. He’s known for his monotonous characters, but

  5. It wouldn’t be the first time an actor surprised the crap out of anyone.

  6. okay, i love keanu reeves — he’s a great actor and makes some pretty cool movies. but i heard rumors (idk how accurate they are) of him playing spike. i’m sorry but i don’t that idea. keanu reeves is too old to play spike since he’s like, what, mid 40ish? and spike is around 30 right? plus i don’t think he looks enough like spike. i like when they find new unheard of actors to play parts like this bc keanu reeves is always going to be neo to me and most people i know. that’s just my opinion tho

  7. At least one comforting fact behind all this is the filmmakers are all actually big fans of the series and care that it’s made good. They’ve all stated that they want to make sure it’s story is translated well.

  8. I think Keanu could be a descent Spike, but i was thinking and i believe he would be better off as Vicious.

  9. I don’t know everyone seems to complain when they hear Reeves got the role but I have no problem with it. I think he looks like Spike and in the anime Spike shows very little emotion a lot of the time when he isn’t fighting.

  10. haha… Spike is an emotionally wrecked character if you’ve seen the whole series. Especially the animated movie… He shows loads of emotion…

  11. I understand he’s an emotional wreck, but other then bountys, Julia, and Fights he acts like he doesn’t care about anything, and he acts like it too. Like I don’t care…that bounty is a small fry I don’t want it…Do whatever you want I don’t care. Stuff like that.

And yes I have seen the entire series I own the entire series on DVD. I’ve watched it about a hundred times now lol.

  12. haha ^^ nice, is there a section to follow the RSS feed

  13. I can’t believe they did this. It is possibly the most depressing thing to happen to anime to date. Every movie he stars in all he does is look confused yet omnipotent the whole time. I don’t know how he does it but this is going to be a disaster. All they need to do now is cast Angelina Jolie for Fe….

  14. Actually I think this movie could turn out to be incredible. Look at how many of the original staff from the anime are working on this film awesome.
